File type support by client version:

RAW Format Support

Metadata users should be aware that compliance by tools of all sorts (databases, Photoshop, camera vendor's tools) is in a state of flux right now as the general standard moves from TIFF-tags to XML-based XMP. You are strongly advised to check metadata persistence through your workflow before committing large amounts of files to processing. There is no workaround - except time; in 6-12 months hopefully major tools will be XMP based and the DNG format will have evolved to a metadata-safe wrapper for RAW (which was never intended for user-based metadata editing).

Notes:
1. RAW support was introduced to v6 as v6.0.3 (Win) and v6.1.2 (Mac OSX); OS9 users had a separate installed for patching support onto v6.0.1 (Mac OS9).
2. There where no additions to Raw support in v7 until v7.0.4.
3. The iRaw v2 update was issued at the same time as v7.0.6 but it is a separate install; v7.0.6 does not include the iRaw v2 files. iRaw v2 is compatible with Portfolio 7.0.4 and newer releases.
4. Portfolio 7 can extract thumbnails and metadata from Raw files and generate previews at up to 50% of the RAW's size. Portfolio 7 can also batch process Raw files to JPEG or (uncompressed) TIFF at 50% of the Raw's size.
5. Adobe DNG - Portfolio extracts metadata and a 1024x768 jpg preview from Adobe DNG files. Portfolio does not currently support the batch conversion of DNG files.
6. Extracts a 680x680px thumbnail, preview and metatdata only, and only on Mac OS X. Extensis recommends the newest version of Flexcolor be used for proper metadata support (most likely an XMP related issue).
7. Only PowerPC Mac clients support these formats. Support is withdrawn on Mac & Win Intel-based systems.
8. Full res only supported.
9. Leaf support was withdrawn for v8.0 due to quality issues and restored in v8.0+RAW v3.0.
10. Files generated with the iRaw 2.0 update are processed in sRGB and use the "as shot" settings recorded in the file. Raw files that have been manipulated in third party Raw software, including Adobe Photoshop will be rendered with the original raw settings with the exception of Adobe DNG files. Portfolio 7 does not have the ability to embed metadata or otherwise alter Raw files.
