Manual: v6 - page 97, v5 - page 56

The Find Document Text command allows you to find words or phrases within the text of catalogued documents, as opposed to in the item's Record, as with other Portfolio word searches. Currently, Portfolio only indexes the text found in plain text files and PDF documents.

Although PDF compatibility is stated by Tech Support as being with PDF v1.3 (Acrobat v4) files, PDF v1.4 (Acrobat v5) files appear to index correctly - presumably as long as no v1.4-specific PostScript is in the file.

Plain text means just that - PC 'TXT' files or the equivalent on the Mac, e.g. SimpleText files.

Note that searches using this feature only return the record of the matching file(s) not the number of occurrences or the page(s) on which the match is found.

This function is accessed via the Catalog menu and search criteria are entered in the Find Document Text dialog.
