Differences between v6.x Clients (Mac/Win/MacX)
Since the original release of v6, there have been a number of minor releases which have introduced a number of improvements. You may also find it useful to view the ReadMe files for the different minor versions, which list significant changes. As well as posted changes the minor updates include undocumented bug fixes and performance improvements which mean that you should if possible use the most recent version of the client for your OS
As regards interoperability, version 6.0 clients and Server should be used together; clients v6.01/6.02/6.1 should be used with Server v6.01/6.1
Windows - v6.01
- Superseded by v6.02.
- Portfolio version 6.0.1, fixes a number of issues reported by users. It also contains improved performance in some parts of the cataloguing process, FolderSync, the Item Properties/Get Info window, and the Change Path feature.
- A new FolderSync Scanning menu item (in the Catalog menu) which disables/enables the folder list status checking. This is beneficial for users who know their catalogue, folders, and files on disk are not changing frequently, to reduce network and disk access. When FolderSync Scanning is disabled, the folders will be available for use and function the same, but the status of the folder - whether the contents of the catalogue match the contents of the folder on disk - may not be accurate until scanning is turned back on and Portfolio completes its inspection of each folder for changes. The status of a folder is also updated by performing a Sync - by selecting the folder and clicking the Sync button.
- A new Batch Rename feature, available from the Item menu (in Windows v6.02), which allows filenames to be changed for the selected items in the gallery. To use this feature, make a selection of items in the gallery, choose the Batch Rename menu item, and then use the feature just like it works in the Cataloguing Options dialog to rename the selected files on disk.
Windows - v6.02
- Improvements to FolderSync performance (especially for served catalogues).
- Improvements to the Collect feature, as well as being able to set the archive catalogue's volume name, paths are now based on the collect folder as the root, instead of using the existing hard drive path. Assume a collect folder "C:\This\That\Collect\" and a volume name of 'TEST'. In v6.01 the path to an archive catalogue's images would be "TEST\This\That\Collect\"; in v6.02, with the same settings it is "TEST\".
- A new command is available from "Catalog" -> "Find Others" -> "Duplicate Items" which finds all records with the same filename and displays them in a new gallery.
- Fixes and additions to the VB scripting interface. Although existing working functions are unchanged, v6.0/6.01 scripts should be re-compiled for use with v6.02 - either for access to new feature or to fixed existing ones.
Windows - v6.03
