Translating Hex Tags to Decimal

The tag numbers for 'tagged' data such as EXIF is often given in Hexadecimal (Hex) number form rather than the Decimal form needed to set up Portfolio mappings. Windows includes a calculator that allows you translate Hex to Decimal but Mac doesn't, so the FAQ has provided a simple hex/dec calculator for you.

Windows

Here is how you turn Hex number to Decimal in Windows:

• Open Windows Calculator
• From the View menu select 'Scientific' mode.
• Click the 'Hex' radio button, top left, and enter the Hex tag number.
• Click the 'Dec' radio button. The number is now in decimal, ready for use in your mapping.
• Repeat with another number or close the Calculator.

Mac OS X

Here is how you turn Hex number to Decimal in Mac OS X:

• Open Calculator (from the Applications folder)
• Select Hexadecimal display format.
• Type in the Hex number.
• Select Decimal display format (menus as above).
• The number is now in decimal, ready for use in your mapping.
• Repeat with another number or close the Calculator.
