Storage Management Feature Description:
Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM)
HSM helps keep frequently used information quickly accessible while holding down overall storage costs. HSM automatically moves files between disks, tapes, and optical media. This migration process keeps the most-needed data in fast local disk storage, while moving less-frequently-used data to slower, but less expensive, media. All files are accessed the same way, no manual effort is required to retrieve files from connected archive storage devices.
Removable Storage Manager (RSM)
RSM presents a common interface to robotic changers and media libraries, enables multiple applications to share local libraries and tape or disk drives, and control removable media within a single-server system. Disk Management has been improved in Windows 2000 Server by allowing administrators to perform online tasks without shutting down the system or interrupting users.
