Do not locate a shared catalog on a Mac OS 10.1.5 shared volume. You can quickly corrupt your catalog if it is opened by more than one copy of Portfolio from a 10.1.5 volume. Upgrade to 10.2 or newer, or use another AppleShare volume such as a Windows, UNIX, or Mac OS 9 AppleShare volume. - Because of a limitation in the OS, a catalog that is opened locally on a machine cannot be opened at the same time from another machine. To fileshare a catalog between multiple copies of Portfolio, locate the file on a shared volume where the catalog is not open, or do not open it locally when others need to open the catalog from the local machine. Working with Portfolio Server Portfolio 6.1 is only compatible with Portfolio Server 6, not previous versions of Portfolio Server. Other Notes - Multi-catalog searches with AppleScript are not currently supported. - The “Send Mail to Recipient” feature does not work with the AOL mail client. - At this time, the Change Path feature will not automatically find additional files in the same location if the files are located on a DVD volume. This is because DVD-making software does not preserve the creation date of the files. Portfolio matches the files by both filename and creation date. If the folder/file hierarchy is the same, and only the volume name changes, the Edit Path AppleScript offers a straightforward way to edit these paths in the catalog. This script has been included in the Scripts folder, installed with Portfolio 6.0.1. - Important: When running Portfolio and the Express Palette at the same time, it is important to close a catalog in the Express Palette before switching to Administrator mode in Portfolio. - JPEG compressed TIFF files are not supported at this time in Portfolio. You will receive an error when attempting to catalog these file types. - Note on recovered catalogs: If you save a new (recovered) catalog to the same location with the same name as the original, the catalog is deleted. Please take care to rename the catalog with a different name. _______________________________________________________________ Manual Addenda Please read the PDF titled "OS X Addendum" that is installed with Portfolio 6.1. It contains a list of differences between the Mac OS 9 and X version and some important compatibility information. Batch Rename This version of Portfolio contains a new Batch Rename feature, available from the Item menu, which allows filenames to be changed for the selected items in the gallery. To use this feature, make a selection of items in the gallery, choose the Batch Rename menu item, and then use the feature just like it works in the Cataloging Options dialog to rename the selected files on disk. Drag and Drop You cannot drag and drop from the Portfolio Express Palette to the Finder. However, you can drag and drop into other applications, such as QuarkXPress or InDesign. EXIF A sample EXIF/IPTC catalog is included on the CD to use as a starting point for setting up a catalog for EXIF information. This catalog already has custom fields and mappings set up for the tags that are supported in Portfolio. Though Portfolio allows you to add new EXIF tags to the mappings, such as custom manufacturer tags, they may not always display the expected value in the field when a value is supposed to be programmatically converted into a different user-friendly value. Additional EXIF support for these tag types will be supported in future releases. Scripting AppleScripts must be saved as applications to be run from the Scripts menu in Portfolio. Additional information about scripting can be found on the Extensis web site - http://www.extensis.com. _______________________________________________________________ About Version 6.1.1 This release addresses a number of minor issues, as well as issues related to special characters that are common in other language versions of the OS. _______________________________________________________________ ©2003 Extensis, Inc.
