Solo is generally issued as a promotional giveaway to introduce users to the full Portfolio client product. In effect, it is the full client but limited in a number of significant ways:
Despite these constraints the user still has access to the vast majority of Portfolio's image management features. Solo is intended to gives users a fully functional client, that doesn't expire, so that they have a chance to really explore the features (and presumably go on purchase the real client!).
Portfolio Solo has a registration code, and it appears that it is done online at the Extensis site. I believe each promotion has its own registration page allowing the administrator if the program to set things like the limits to the number of records allowed.
Given that Solo is a promotional product it is unlikely that you will find it available for sale or as a downloadable demo. Bear in mind that the full client (indeed all Portfolio modules) are available as a fully-functioning 30-day demo by download from the Extensis web site or from Extensis demo for full install CD. After 30-days, demos of the full app revert to Browser functionality whereas, Solo presumably has an expiration date/duration set in its build. From the bullet points above, information kindly supplied by Extensis, Solo is normally set to have no expiry date.
