Updating Files - Item menu, FolderSync
Updating Files using Item -> Extract Properties:
- Extract Properties will extract embedded Description and Keywords according to rules set in Advanced Cataloging Options' Properties tab.
- Extract Properties will extract metadata to Custom Fields according to rules set in Advanced Options Properties.
- Extract Properties will not update Keywords or Description metadata assigned using the Cataloging Options dialog.
- Extract Properties will extract metadata to Custom Fields according to assignments set using the Cataloging Options dialog. For single value fields new metadata replaces existing metadata, for multi-value fields the new metadata is appended to existing metadata. Note this last aspect is anomalous behaviour as Extract Properties should bypass any assigned metadata.
In summary, updating via Extract Properties uses both assigned and embedded metadata - except embedded Keywords/Descriptions. The rationale for this is not clear.
